Next steps from #marriageequality: What laws need to be pushed forward?

Now that the marriage equality law has been passed in Thailand, it’s like winning a mini-challenge. But my friends, this is just the beginning of the journey towards equality for the LGBTQI+ community. There are still many laws and policies that need to be pushed forward to make this society more fair and equal! Let’s see what issues we should push forward next.

Adoption and Surrogacy Laws

Imagine this: you and your partner want to create a perfect family through adoption or surrogacy, but the current law is not ready for same-sex couples like you! Adoption may be easy and legal in some countries, but in Thailand, there are still restrictions for same-sex couples.

Surrogacy in Thailand has complicated requirements. Same-sex couples may find it difficult to proceed because the law is not clear and does not support surrogacy for same-sex couples. Therefore, pushing for a law that supports and supports same-sex couples will help you and your friends to create a perfect family, regardless of gender!

Laws on Changing Gender on ID Cards

If you are a transgender person who wants to provide accurate gender information on your ID card, changing gender information is still very difficult. If there is a law that makes it easier for transgender people to change their gender information, you will no longer have to face discrimination! For example, not receiving proper medical services because the information on your ID card does not match your identity, not being able to apply for a job where you want because your identity document does not match your actual gender, or even being denied entry when traveling abroad because your documents do not match your gender.

Anti-Discrimination Laws

Imagine being discriminated against at work or school because you are LGBTQI+. For example, you are not given the promotion you deserve because your boss or coworkers do not accept your gender identity. Or you are bullied and ostracized at school because you are openly gay. If there were strict laws with clear penalties, it would confirm that this kind of discrimination is absolutely unacceptable! Your friends would not have to face this situation again.

Education and Training

Are you studying or working in a place that provides training and education about gender diversity? Your peers understand and accept gender differences from a young age. This type of education helps create a society that truly accepts and respects diversity. For example, organizing gender diversity training events in schools or training at work to help your colleagues understand and accept their gender diverse peers.

Healthcare and Health Rights

You want access to LGBTQI+ friendly healthcare. Improving laws and policies that provide non-discriminatory healthcare will help promote the health and well-being of you and your community members. For example, you won’t have to worry about being denied treatment because of your gender identity, or you can access mental health services that understand and accept gender diversity.

And if you’re a transgender person who needs hormone therapy but has difficulty finding it in a healthcare facility, improving laws and policies that allow transgender people to access hormone therapy safely and without discrimination will help promote the physical and mental health of you and your community members. For example, you’ll have access to a doctor who understands and specializes in transgender care, or you’ll have access to quality, safe hormones from a trusted healthcare provider.

By pushing for these laws, we’re showing everyone that you and your LGBTQI+ community members are valued and have the same rights as everyone else. This is the next step after #marriageequality, and we need to work together to create a brighter future! 🌈✨

In addition, healthcare and blood tests are important for the LGBTQI+ community to ensure that you and your community members Stay healthy and prevent the spread of STIs and HIV.
