Celebrate Pride from home from Tesbkk

Let's celebrate changing our lifestyle to a rainbow!

First of all, have you ever wondered why it has to be a rainbow?

Humans use colors to express emotions, symbols, and gender. That's why we see Barbie dolls in pink and superheroes in blue. In today's world, many people have crossed the boundaries of gender and color. Whoever uses which color makes them comfortable and happy, just use it! The Pride flag uses all the colors of the rainbow, which represents the diversity of people regardless of their gender or sexuality. TestBKK would like to take you to understand the meaning of each color used in the Pride flag first, to be in tune with the LGBTQIA concept.

Let's have some fun decorating your home

Whether during COVID or not, the room is still a place that gives us energy. It depends on what kind of energy we create for ourselves. Some people like to have lots of plants in the house to create freshness. Some people like a simple room in the Muji style, using only IKEA items. But this month, TestBKK invites everyone to create color and positive energy for themselves and those around them by using Pride flags to decorate the room or on the balcony outside the room.

Dress up

Sometimes buying a new rainbow outfit can be too much of a waste if your everyday style doesn’t match. So we have some ideas to add a little fun to your everyday look for you to try, such as painting your nails (you can wash them off after 2 weeks), wearing rainbow socks (they pop up when you wear long pants), or for those who already have colored hair, there might be a day when you try applying all the colors to your hair. It could be just the ends of your hair, some sections, or if you want to have fun, your whole head.

Ideas for taking pictures with the gang

Many people have a concept when gathering friends, such as going to the beach, so it must be a white theme, or a cowboy theme for New Year. But if we can't meet now, it doesn't mean that we'll just sit around and not have new pictures to post like we used to. Try looking at ideas from Instagram by a user named msnikkikubik. He wanted to take a rainbow theme, so he divided it up. Whoever gets a certain color goes to find clothes according to that. You can DIY from old clothes you already have, or order them online (I recommend buying the kind that you can wear many times or send to your friends and siblings). Then, gather the selfies that you think you can definitely compete with your friends and put them in the photo collage app. Your face will look like the picture above.

LGBTQIA+ TV series that you must see at least once

Pose

This is a series that cannot be left unsaid because the cast has the largest group of trans actors (transgender women) in the history of television shows with roles. The series tells the story of the drag ball culture of black and Latino trans people in New York in the 80s, inspired by famous people at that time to create the storylines of each character in the story. There are now 3 seasons and you can watch it on Netflix.

Glee

This series may be a bit old compared to the others reviewed here, but it is not the first series that talks about LGBTQI+ on the big screen. However, it is a series that opens the minds of teenagers who face the pressure of LGBTQI+ in school society, from friends, people around them, parents, and teachers. This series came out before America allowed same-sex marriage in 2015, making it one of the few school series for many people that can be a source of support during a vulnerable period. Because many characters show the period when they are learning, wanting to express themselves but may be stereotyped by society. Therefore, it is an example of how they can get through that time while facing many problems. The singing club is the center of the story, using the power of singing to heal or help create something to get through anything. The series has now ended. There are 6 seasons in total. You can watch it later on Netflix.

Modern Family

It is the longest-running sitcom on ABC, with 11 seasons, and is made in a mockumentary style that tells the story of 3 families in LA, including one family that is a gay family. The series tells the story of normal problems that modern families have to face, and blends LGBTQI + into the story to make the existence of LGBTQI + families normal, and the wedding ceremony of this couple is shown in the story. If you want to watch it later, you can watch it on Netflix.

The Politician

A new series about a man who has a passion to become President of the United States by starting to climb the ranks as student body president of his own school. The story satirizes the political game in America down to the school level. And in Season 2, it has been expanded to become a member of the Senate in New York State. Where our hero is gay, but for political gain, he must have a female lover to please the people who mostly still think that leaders in society must be heterosexual. Watch both seasons of The Politician on Netflix.

Ratched

This is one of the most beautiful imperative killer series I've ever seen. The camera angles, clothes, and art direction are all very beautiful. I highly recommend that you watch it at least once because it's also very entertaining. The story is set in 1947, and the center of the story is around a woman named Mildred Ratched, who is a nurse in a mental hospital trying to help her brother, who is a psychopathic killer. Since the concept of LGBTQI+ was not very accepted in 1947, our heroine, who may be a lesbian deep down, has to keep her feelings to herself. The story also shows the cruelty of "curing" lesbianism, which is actually torture. It is one of the stories that tells the story of lesbians in the old days, when they would meet, they would meet at a cabin outside the city and hide their identities in other public places. There is only one season now, but I can't wait for season 2. You can watch Ratched on Netflix.

Sex Education

It was a series that created a lot of buzz when it was released because, in addition to the catchy name, the content of the story is about the sexual health of students who are in a period of exploration, experimentation, and fun. It also talks about various issues that students may encounter, such as molestation, not being able to socialize well, not knowing who to consult or how to find help. This story tries to show that if you are one of these people, you are not alone. You don’t have to be afraid of asking for help or confronting each other. We will get through this together. The story tells about LGBTQI+ through the character of the protagonist’s friend who is black and has a complicated relationship with the person who bullied him all the time. Because he himself is confused and doesn’t know how to express it. Because his family is very old-fashioned and very uncomfortable. In this story, in addition to the complicated relationships of the secondary characters, the main characters are equally complicated. There are now 2 seasons. Follow Sex Education on Netflix.

Star Trek : Discovery

The immortal sci-fi series that everyone who has heard of must have heard of somewhere or know about. In this series that has been a pioneer in inclusivity since the beginning of TV shows, in this new season, the topic of LGBTQI + has been added to be a social media as it was done 50 years ago by broadcasting a kiss scene between a black person and a white person. Although it is not the first series that talks about gays, there is a gay couple in the story as a normal thing. It is not something special or something to watch because he presented it normally and it is just one element of love in the story. Most viewers feel that way. That LGBTQI + love is normal. The story itself has entered a new era of Star Trek with a new ship, a new mission in a new galaxy, and a new threat that will occur in the new universe that the crew on the USS. Discovery must overcome. Now, this series has 3 seasons and can be watched on Netflix.

And of course, reaching out to the communities we live in is also important. In addition, understanding more about differences is also very important. For example, Non-binary, non-binary, or Intersex, which we have to understand. And many other things that we are not familiar with. Because in the past, when we did not understand and saw people who were different from women or men, it was wrong, causing us to choose to act differently. This is one of the important reasons for pushing for equality, which is understanding.

Donating to support friends

Donating to support organizations that help or support gender diversity is another option that can be used to celebrate Pride Month. For example, books from authors who support diversity or organizations before equality. Choose to buy products that really support gender diversity, both in terms of collections and company policies. It is another option that can be supported. In addition, joining fun online activities that raise money by collecting online registration fees is also interesting. For example, if you are interested in dancing, there are online dance classes during Pride Month. Last year, The London Dance Academy had dance lessons from the mother of drag Rupaul's team. Or if you want to be a DJ, you can collect registration fees and donate some of the money. APCOM FOUNDATION is one of the organizations that support gender diversity and equality.
